Breakfast Nature Club: Pond Study

Learn the secret life of Iowa’s wildlife during this monthly class at Nahant Marsh. Each month we will explore the characteristics and adaptations of a group of local flora and fauna.
Dates: Friday, July 1st

Time: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.

Cost: $10 Non-members, $7 Members


Nature Hike

Join our naturalists for a guided hike around the marsh. Hikes will be offered the first Saturday of the month and are a great way to experience the changing seasons at the marsh. Trails are mostly flat terrain making this guided hike perfect for everyone. Grab your binoculars or camera and explore the wonder of the wetlands!

Date: Saturday, July 2nd

Time: 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Cost: $7 Adult non-members, $5 Adult members, Free for children under 12.

 

FOX - Family Outdoor eXplorations: Wildlife Safari

Many animals live at Nahant Marsh. Together, we will follow clues and see what critters we can find.

Date: Saturday, July 9th

Time: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Cost: $7 Adult non-members, $5 Adult Members, $5 Child non-members, $3 Child members

 

Landscaping with Native Plants | July 16
Dan Mays, Scott County Master Gardener, will demonstrate how to design a landscape with a variety of native prairie plants. Cost: $10 for non-members, $7 for members.

Moth-ers Day | July 30
Celebrate National Moth Week at Nahant Marsh and see what comes out on nature’s “2nd Shift.” Scott County Master Gardeners and Nahant Marsh invite you to join them for Moth-ers Day on Saturday, July 30 at Nahant Marsh. A presentation by Moni Hayne, author of the e-book, “Garden Insect Pests: Pictures for Identifying and Organic Controls,” and an expert in the field of entomology, will begin her presentation at 8 p.m. After, participants will observe how black-lighting is used to document and identify moths. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Registration is recommended. There is no fee for this program, however, donations are welcome.
Edible and Medicinal Plants | August 20
Native plants have been used for centuries as a source of food and medicine. Learn some of the common species and practical tips on how to incorporate them into your daily life. Cost: $10 for non-members, $7 for members.

Bug Party | July 15
Join a naturalist for a night out! This bug party is open to all ages. Come learn about the winged party animals and other nocturnal critters hanging out at the marsh! More details to come at www.nahantmarsh.org. Cost: $5 members, $7 non-members.
